Davenport in 009: body work design...

Work on my Davenport project continues with a lazy afternoon at home today. This is the inspiration behind the Bachmann model, and I've taken the essence of this and worked up something in Sketchup...

The basic design is now complete - though I need to design buffers and etches, and shows how quickly a concept can come together. The model will clip straight onto a modified Gmeinder chassis (with outside cranks) or the forthcoming NS2f model from Minitrains.

I've tried to capture the low slung looks of the prototype, this is wide, at 7', but I've checked and that's the same width as the one that ran on the D&RGW (former Sumpter Valley). This is a smaller model, but they were available in such a wide variety of sizes and powers that I hope it's passable.
 You can see the chassis fits neatly inside, and the motor clears the cab roof.

 The motor is visible in the cab, but won't be too bad when doors are added. The design will include half etched overlays for the front and back of the cab, to include the rivet detail. The cab doors and roof will be etched as well - and the bonnet doors and bonnet grill, along with some custom etched cranks. I still need to work out how to do the steps, foot boards and handrails each end.

  1. Just be sure and do not attach the front horizontal handrail to the radiator like was done on the Bachmann model. They misinterpreted the photo of the prototype, as it is not all that clear. Width of that size Davenport was 6'6" so you are close enougt.
