Projects
As a model maker with over 35 years experience I'm happy to offer my unique combination of skills in scratch and kit building locomotives and rolling stock, painting and weathering, construction of scenic buildings and structures through to complete layouts. In addition a number of my own projects have yielded components now available through Light Railway Stores.
Having worked with Stephen for over a decade I finally became a director of Light Railway Stores in 2026. Primarily a marketplace underpinned by a custom etch design and supply business, LRS gives us a vehicle to try out new projects and ideas - and has been the cornerstone of Narrow Planet, EuroNG, 6point5 and Planet Industrials. In more recent times the shop has provided a retail outlet for my Ribbons project. I look forward to working with Steve for many years to come - and hope you enjoy the many new projects and adventures we take you on! In the meantime, please do continue to support the custom etch business and pre-order your Accurascale and Rapido models through us - this financial support makes things like Ribbons and Layout Club possible! Thank you!
'Ribbons - a compendium of creative Railway Modelling' is a collection of thoughts and ideas explored through a series of essays. Always printed, this 'occasional' publication is a safe place to escape the digital monolith, tactile and grounding.
Layout Club - Coming soon - A range of limited edition softwear, low-key and subtle but designed by railway modellers, for railway modellers. A LIFESTYLE brand of our own...
A simple and addictive tool to log rail journeys across the United Kingdom. Quickly note date, locomotive or unit number, origin and destination. Review stats including most frequent journeys, most travelled numbers. Journey Log is not a social network but you can also see if other users have travelled on a particular route or number.
Whilst Steve built Journey Log for me after a conversation aboard a 484 EMU on the Isle of Wight, we're happy to share this wonderfully simple, tactile and intuitive log with you all. Sign up now!
Planet Industrials was founded in 2019 by Steve and myself, after working together as modellers and friends for almost 10 years. We’re both active modellers with layouts and interests in a range of scales and gauges - the common theme being down at heel and of an industrial nature. From simple modern multi-media kits we developed our first ready to run model, the highly acclaimed Kerr, Stuart 'Victory'. Whilst there are no plans for further RTR items at present, kit development continues and production is in small batches.
A range of prototypes in 1:76 (4mm/ft) scale from feldbahn diesels to sugar plantation locomotives that share a common trait, to have been designed and manufactured within Europe. I established the brand in 2014 to take advantage of using 9mm track to represent 600mm gauge and EuroNG now includes a growing range of steam and diesel locomotives as well as some custom components. The kits feature 3D printed skeletons with etched nickel silver overlays to provide detail and designed for easy assembly with just superglue.
In 2017 I was proud to launch the first commercially available models in a new scale - 006.5, these are 1:76 (4mm/ft) models running on 6.5mm gauge track, representing 18" gauge prototypes. My multimedia kits featured etched and cast metal and 3D printed parts and are designed by us here in the UK, to utilise mechanisms manufactured by Busch in Germany. My locomotive kits came with the option to include the correct mechanism, the rolling stock kits came with wheels and couplings. This range is now discontinued.
