Commission: Castell Caernarfon in 009...

What's this? Surely it should be maroon? This model of the Welsh Highland Railway's Funkey diesel 'Castell Caernarfon' has actually beaten the prototype out of the workshop - and as my customer had been in contact with Boston Lodge we could confirm the new livery...
We chose to use Brunswick green as a reasonable match to the photos of parts in the paint shop, hopefully it will look similar when out and about. The model uses a Worsley Works kit with added details and a modified Grafar Class 91 chassis that is secured in place with magnets.
The name plates are from Narrow Planet, and the model has been very lightly weathered. In my experience this subtlety is more difficult to achieve than a heavy weathering job, and I'm pleased with the result. Another trick worth mentioning is the headlights, these are plastic tube painted silver on the rim. The central hole filled with Humbrol clearfix, then a blob of PVA added and allowed to dry to give a domed effect. A very slight spot of white paint in the centre looks like a bulb, and then clearfix again on the top to make them shiny.
If you're interested in a similar model, or anything for that matter from a simple respray to a full on scratchbuild, get in touch using the contact form on my website, Facebook or one of the forum messaging systems. More soon...
