Dalmunzie coach in 7/8ths: primed...
I mentioned earlier that I'd made swift progress on the estate railway coach, and also the original one I'd made in 006.5! Well to start of this post, here they are together! The 4mm scale model looks like a 7/8ths model posed on the 7/8ths model!
Since my previous post, quite a lot of progress has been made - and all that really remains is to finish the roof with a thin skin of 10thou styrene, and to build something that represents the brake gear under the chassis. The seats were assembled with 60 thou styrene planks, and the rivets added from Cambrian at each end. They were then mounted on small 60 thou styrene mounts on the chassis.
The centre brake stand uses an old LGB hand wheel, and is just styrene rod, with microstrip wrapped at each end, and then the base has been 'bolted' down with Cambrian bolt heads.
The roof is 60 thou styrene throughout. The centre section is one piece with a central fold, the sides are also another two parts, then the curves are made up of just two sections. These were superglued together and then smoothed over, to give a firm base to a thin skin which will be applied next.
The roof remains removable, which makes adding and removing figures very easy. The Model-Earth seated figures work well on the seats, so I need to source a second one - as obviously the driver needs to stay on the Simplex!
I think I'll go for a brown finish to the ends, black roof and chassis and then black metalwork on the seats, and varnished planks, and worn wood for the top of the chassis. Plenty to get on with stilll... more soon...
