Commission: Crossley Evans cameo in N...

When do I post something like this? Commissions are Monday, but layout designs are Saturday - you can see what I decided. This latest design commission has channeled various childhood memories into an achievable small home space cameo project in N…

Illustration by James Hilton, photos via Flickr as noted.

The Layout Design Process helps steer my customer and shape their thinking. The result should be both achievable and personal - meaning something and capturing just enough of their story to feel personal.

In this case some creative cropping and rationalisation, as described in ‘The Art of Railway Modelling’ has allowed us to squeeze a sense of the Crossley Evans scrap yard at Shipley into an alcove in the lounge.

If you’d like to work with me on your own design then the process starts from just £210. Get in touch to discuss how things work and to kick things off… until next time. More soon…

  1. Always something interesting and thought provoking to read here, James.

  2. The different type of track and it being at different levels adds so much to this. Very simple but very clever (as usual!) James.

  3. Morning James, I really like the middle photo with the different track, mainline and siding really providing a contrast! You can pretty much do a model of the train in the top photo, you've already got the 47 and HEA's, I know that they welded the bottom doors up for scrap (HSA?) but that not obvious in N gauge.
Cracking little plan, hope you are enjoying the sun up there in Wales. Take care.
