Commission: European N repaints…
As a number of disappointed potential customers will attest, I do not do N scale commissions. That said, there are a small number of exceptions - because specifically what I mean is, British ‘modern image’ N. This then, is an adventure in European models and I’ve enjoyed working on a complete repaint with custom designed decals…
The Spanish electric locomotive (please forgive my ignorance, I have worked from notes and photographs from my customer but do not have much in the way of prototype knowledge for these models) has been repainted from a Kato example in a livery it never carried. This required custom mixing of an each paint shade (don’t ask me to repeat it!) and careful masking. Finishing touches are the small markings that give the unit its identity, custom decals produced from my artwork.
Another part of the commission were a pair of sleeping carriages, part of some trans-European service I believe. These have a myriad of small markings, each designed and measured to fit and then carefully applied to the gloss paintwork before sealing with lacquer.
Re-assembled and currently still en-route to my customer thanks to the new EU rules on imports - completely understandable but slightly frustrating for my customer, I’m sure. If you have a model in another scale that you’d like me to do a bare shell respray on, I can design and/or source all required markings and even add a custom weathering if required. In the meantime, until next time, more soon…
