At the buffers…
Sometimes the ups and downs of life conspire in such a way that even our sanctuary can reflect the world we have created…
Today I feel at the buffers.
I can go no further on these rails, this track.
It is clarity, recognising something important and finding a different route.
We can move on from here. A terminus isn’t just a destination, it can also be just the start of a new adventure.
Normal service will resume soon - until next time…
Support my work
I love writing and creating material for the blog. If you enjoy what you read and engage with I would be appreciative of any donation, large or small, to help me keep it advert and restriction free. Alternatively, feel free to buy me a coffee.

James that is a nice little write up about one's head space and mental health. I am a retired mental health nurse after 38 years in that particular field and I get days like you have mentioned in your post. I got to talk and to have a hobby like ours to unwind and think about things. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the support Kevin, I appreciate every person who stops by here daily, whether they leave a comment or not… but it’s always nice to see something to interact with…
DeleteJames, sorry to hear you're having to pause for a while, one way or another these things do pass. I just wanted to let you know that I've just received a copy of "Ribbons" and have been taking a day or two to digest, more food for thought than I imagined I would find. Thank you.
DeleteThanks John - no rest for the wicked, I'm not pausing, just struggling - but recognising this and using the blog to describe the experience is as much part why people visit, I think, as the modelling! Suffice to say I've been hard at it today making 100 fence posts of two types for Kenny Hill and finishing off the CAD work on some new bits and bobs...
DeleteKeep moving James! That’s my best advice. Great to see that you are, not so much struggling on, but marching on, even if you have to double-back for a bit and turn left instead… etc. I’m a daily reader, occasional commenter, and a fairly regular struggler who finds some sanctuary at the kitchen table where my little models live. I thank you for your input here.

Thanks John - always lovely to hear from regulars, and I’ll continue to ramble on here forever, probably…
DeleteHi James, You impress me with how much you post on here. I started running a blog back in lockdown and even finding the time to post once or twice a week was difficult. The fact that you've been sharing your work and your thoughts daily for so long is quite something. I'm sure we all understand if you need some space, my work is doing me in at the moment and quiet time is a much needed tonic. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat - no intention to stop, it’s part of the daily routine and certainly an aid to general mental health… just reflecting on something ‘off blog’ that I’ve described as ‘at the buffers’… describing it in railway terms helps me work out what’s going on… as mad as that might sound!
DeleteJames - I'm sorry to hear that you have been struggling of late. I'm sure you know what you need to be doing when you feel like this, but just give yourself the time and space you need. Crucially, remember to be kind to yourself. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dave. I find the blog a wonderful muse and somewhere to explore my headspace, my relationship with model making, with railways as well as the models themselves. I’m good, reaching the buffers was a chance to reflect and recognise - and move forwards.
