Planet Industrials: Late style Barclay cab...

This is the first 'full exposure' of the next kit in the Planet Industrials range, something I'm hoping will be available in early 2020. The model is based around the lovely Hattons Andrew Barclay in OO gauge and will allow the purchaser to model a unique example not covered by the Hattons variations...
The kit will include a 3D printed cab. This will require the purchased to clean up the support marks on the roof, before fitting the handrails and brake detail from the Hattons cab. A small detailing etch will fit on the roof to represent the opening hatch, along with cab side doors and works plates.
The design is based upon those at Devonport dockyard and represents a post 1951 style used on other Barclays used in industry, including the National Coal Board. It is planned to offer the first limited run of kits with a set of custom transfers for the Devonport example, including full lining, and an additional etched number plate.
This is the first of a series of product announcements in the standard gauge 'Planet Industrials' range, which now has it's own Facebook page to allow a more focused space for news and photographs. However rest assured I'll also share progress on the design work here on my blog.
What else can you expect in 2020? I've already hinted at the Andrew Barclay / Drewry diesel kit I'm developing as a beginner first kit, to feature a simple non-solder chassis, and body similar in construction to the Planet. I've also got plans for a second variant of the Planet diesel, and there is news of a revised Tenshodo power unit that may work under that in future, although its possible I'll develop a simple chassis for the Planet as well. In terms of rolling stock, all I will say we have some ideas in the pipeline for development in the first half of the year.
So an exciting year ahead for the fledgling brand, with kits for all abilities planned from absolute beginner with the Barclay cab change, to a proper kit on a RTR chassis (the Planet) and then a first timers kit chassis (the Drewry). Watch this space, as they say, and if you're interested then check out the new page on Facebook. More soon...

  1. As a possible alternative to the Tenshodo some tram modellers are looking at the ARU range available from Plaza Japan on Ebay
