Commission: Talyllyn pair in 009…
The past few weeks of Commission Monday have been a bit of an 009 Talyllyn focus and today is no different as I have a further pair of wonderful narrow gauge models…
The Bachmann ready to run finish is very nice - but the donor Thomas model lacked the same finesse as the Fourdees model. I carved off and replaced the smokebox handrail but couldn’t go any further without needing to repaint her - the damage was touched in with satin black and the handrail left raw brass. Light Railway Stores again provided the etched plates.
Not one but two today, a pair. A gentle re-working of a Bachmann USA Talyllyn to match a Fourdees Dolgoch I was asked to build and finish.
Dolgoch follows my usual approach to the Fourdees model, cleaned, prepped and support material cleared from levers and handrails before priming and painting in green. Satin and matt black added next, then the lining - which is Fox N gauge yellow/black. Once applied I paint neatly up to the black edge, and then finish off with detail painting buffer beams, pipework etc. plates from Light Railway Stores are added and a coat of lacquer stops these tarnishing and protects the finish as well as providing a deep, almost ready to run lustre.
I absolutely love narrow gauge models and have no problem working with etched brass, scratch build, 3D printed or plastic kits - as well as modified ready to run. If you’d like me to bring your own dreams to life then get in touch for a fixed price proposal until next time, more soon…
