Friday Update: Three Four Twenty-six…
It has been a busy week here ‘on holiday’ - in reality just visiting family, in Penarth…
Unexpected sunshine, train rides, delighted by surprise 150 haulage and a distinct lack of any modelmaking, less of a break though, and a reflection on how much I value the practice and its impact on my own well being.

The Easter weekend offers a chance for more selfish restorative practice. 5310 is about here in the valley and I’ve a few personal projects I can progress - as well as enjoying some new books and quiet mornings - as now, whilst the house sleeps I have two dogs and a copy of Paul Shannon’s ‘Freight Terminals’ book beside me - so I’ll sign off here and pick that up, enjoying the moment. Until next time, wherever you are, I hope you manage some of your own reflective moments this weekend. More soon…

Hi James
ReplyDeleteSeems as if you had a fairly relaxing Easter holiday so far- don’t remember mine being so stress-free . Good you can recharge the batteries. I look forward to what come across your work bench in the next weeks- I know it will be of great interest
The photo of Penarth was very evocative and you manged to catch some blue sky- quite an achievement with this recent “liquid sunshine”. I think I have only been through Penarth once, back on a sixth-form geography field trip. We went over the 30-inch tracks to Penarth Cement works (I think this is now Cosmeston Lakes Country Parks) and although I saw some wagons no one wanted to stop – now that is a surprise. I believe it was all swept away in the early 1970’s although the Fowler diesels are preserved
Best regards
Alan
Thank you Alan, I shall look that railway up, it isn’t one I was aware of…
DeleteJames - I hope you have enjoyed the quiet time and the chance for reflection. Having a short break can be a good thing. With another hat on, I'm a musician (a grandiose term which belies my mediocre talents), but a day or two away from the horn or piano can sometimes be beneficial. If only to remind me how important practising is to be wellbeing and state of mind.
ReplyDeleteTake care and enjoy your Easter weekend.
Thank you - endured perhaps rather than enjoyed. Definitely the odd moment of reflection, and space to remember who I am too, an opportunity whenever I’m aboard a train.
