Narrow Gauge South…
It has been a very busy two days and as I write this on Saturday evening I’m tired tired tired, but happy…
The Llanfyllin and Llangynog project moves forwards with the Peco coach announced today…
… and the day rounded off with a great burger and beers at the Steam Town bar near the station so a quick walk over the road to see what was down on show… just a Colas 70 and a SWR 450.
An uneventful trip down from Ruabon to Bexhill via 158 / 805 / 395 and 171… you can all guess which was the most comfortable but to be fair, the 805 was infinitely better than the Super Voyager it replaces - better still, a big improvement to the Pendolino… what’s more just £4 for a coffee and pastry!
Leaving the High Speed at Ashford and taking the slow train, impossible blue skies over Englands green and present land, yellow rape glowing like the sun with the warmth of my heart reflected in its embrace. I love this railway…
Reaching Bexhill it seems like I’ve managed to fill my spotters book mark! The hi light being the Intercity 08 at Bletchley… if you want one, I’ll be doing them free with all book purchases direct from me - more on that soon enough.
The show today was good. A nice hustle but not too busy, trade was brisk and it was lovely to meet so many of you… so many warm words and kind compliments - reminding me of how restorative these events can be for the lone wolf modeller and creator like myself.
Best in show, I’d say, was a Bridport - classic layout and quality modelling (above), our display case bursting with more new models - and some secrets hidden in plain sight… an exciting few months ahead.
My apologies for the lack of coherence - tired and probably ready for bed… off to the Isle of Wight tomorrow - so a different pace, yes, and all the best for it. Until next time, more soon…

Great to see you yesterday James and glad you enjoyed our show. Tim had gathered in a great selection of layouts so choosing the recipient for our 'Best in Show' award was a difficult task but in the end the three of us involved chose David Taylor's Bridport Town, so we very much agree with you. I've already enjoyed dipping into my copy of Companion No.3 (and the "secrets hidden in plain sight" didn't go unnoticed either).
ReplyDeleteHave a great day on the Isle of Wight, you've got brilliant weather for the trip over. I don't think the steam railway will disappoint, it's spot on in my opinion.
