Modelling a roof repair in N...

Just before Christmas my N gauge dreams came true when my pre-ordered Graham Farish 150/2 in Transport for Wales livery arrived here in North Wales...

I am still yet to weather her - but I have recently made a small start by replicating the cab corner repair for seen on many of the examples. This is one I saw at Swansea that took me to Shrewsbury via the Heart of Wales last year, there are variations - but better to copy a photo I always feel.

The outline was carefully masked with Humbrol masking tape and then the areas sprayed with Humbrol 85 (Satin black). The result is a neat and subtle, thin coat of paint. I will let this harden for a few weeks before picking up the brush again and making a start on some 'in service' weathering - perhaps documenting this for my new book 'The Art of Weathering'... which might see more N than you'd expect to see in a modelling book - but the techniques and messages are small scale agnostic.

Until next time though, more soon...

  1. A subtle detail James, interesting to see that Transport for Wales don't fit overhead electrical line warning stickers on straight either! Take care.
