Hilton and Mears: That particular drumbeat...
For all the diversity of the language, it’s something to think about how often a few words are used so many different ways…
We almost started posting 'Missing posters' around town. It was starting to feel like spring had gotten lost and even winter was starting to fidget and option ways to leave for feeling it had stayed too long. Finally the first of the crocuses have breached the surface of the ground and their colourful blooms are reminding the grass what it is like to feel alive again.
It’s a time of rejuvenation across this ancient land. Even the oldest of old things can come alive to know itself as something new.
I thought about that when this happened.
I haven’t heard this particular drumbeat since shunters like 35 rummaged around in a field near Claremont looking for their rails but I’d know that chorus anywhere.
Shoving feed loads for the mill into place as confidently as it breathes a rejuvenating feed of a different kind into a couple of enthusiastic railfans who gathered to witness the return of ex-B&W 1000 to service.
It’s perfect for this and this is perfect right here. Coke can hoppers for the Co-op remind me how we hoped to at least save 1000 from scrap to the surprise that it would run again, saved for the thousandth time it seems, and how I seldom drink soda but am right now and how good it feels to hold a can in my hands not made from the vintage iron this Alco almost became.
Three cars to the stop.

This is just the latest in the Hilton and Mears collaboration, to read more use the Hilton Mears label where you can find similar work as well as an incomplete faux history behind our TerraTransport meanderings. Until next time, more soon...
