Commission: Sutton Class 25 re-work…

A veritable cornucopia of BR blue here in recent weeks and even after today we’re not finished, but that said, this is a first and a fascinating one - the almost mythical Sutton Locomotive Works Sulzer type 2 Class 25…

Decorated as 25296 with the embellishments of the prototypes use in the ‘Rainhill 150’ celebrations in 1980 she is a stunning model. The finesse is just up a little bit on the norm in most ways but there was one problem. The prototype was a Glasgow works refurb and that meant the roof exhaust arrangement was incorrect - the raised panel needed removing and the exhaustion resetting at roof level.

The modification was relatively straight forward. I cut the retaining lugs from the panel and used them to fill the holes left behind reducing the amount if filler required, sanded down and made good before painting in rail blue - the slightly lighter shade not a concern with the light weathering of the roof that had been specificed. The usual mix of Humbrol 133 / 245 / 27004 gave a toning down and some neat 33 was used as exhaust.

The result met my customers needs nicely, and I enjoyed the small project. If you have something, a specific prototype that you’d like me to recreate then get in touch for a no obligation fixed price proposal. You can contact me here using the form on the website or via my Facebook page. In the meantime, more soon…
