When inspiration strikes…
I had a spare body. It was that photo I found of 08912 at Middlesbrough Goods that did it - an old Class 08 up on blocks. Wheelsets alongside. Perhaps toast, perhaps not…
Twelve if you’re counting. Mind, this one won’t be able to turn a wheel and has cost more in 3D printed wheelsets (West Hill) and engine (Rusty Rails) than the body cost me. A craft knife opened up the equipment box (which will have some scratch built detail and open doors added) and a razor saw plus a cutting disc opened the bonnet… picking up and using my familiar tools, working with a familiar model, making something different.
Creating because there needs to be some activity to deal with real life. The product is something I care about, the result will be a lovely ‘cameo’ to pose on a layout perhaps conceived but not started. When I enjoy gazing at the finished model I won’t remember the heart-ache she smoothed, only the warmth of a model crafted in my hand and the calm that followed.
Today I’m making something else - but still creating - chasing that dream of creativity. Until next time, more soon…
Support my work
Thank you for the continued support whether it’s here donating or buying coffee or on YouTube as channel members - it’s the ‘discretionary’ money that fuels many of these smaller personal projects. It adds another layer to each, the kindness and generosity of strangers (and friends), it becomes part of the fabric of the models that follow. I am forever grateful.
