Llangollen Branchline Gala 2026…

A few days of typically Welsh spring weather. Beautiful when the sun shines, brutally cold when it rains. This has not dampened my enthusiasm for the gala this weekend which has been superb…

Rather than waffle on I’ll just note that D9525 is leaving next week, so makes its last appearance here and the visitors, 4555 and 1369 are moving on too, so if you’re in two minds and within striking distance get over here!

Friday I managed two trips from Glyn to Corwen aboard D9525. She makes a rather wonderful noise, I’ll certainly miss her, and the friendly crew.

A still from video, hence the blur… 4555 kicks off day 2.

I fell in love with these Panniers 40 odd years ago and yesterday, finally saw one in the flesh. Wonderful machine, todays aim is to get a ride behind it.

Enjoying MRJ 317 and a pint in the wonderfully characterful, and more importantly, dry, Porters at Glyndyfrdwy.

So, off to do it all over again today - once I’ve walked the dog of course - wrap up warm, if you’re visiting and perhaps see you at Glyndyfrdwy. Until next time, more soon…

  1. Morning James. Looks like a great gala, 1369 is particularly special given her service on the wenfordbridge clay trains. Maybe a model for Penpont in the future? I've never seen a class 14, they look very purposeful though. I picked up a copy of MRJ yesterday in Wadebridge, one of the best issues for a while. The article on the portreath branch was particularly interesting, I can almost see Portreath from my house and have regularly swim in the sea there! I enjoyed your collaborative article in RM about Boston Lodge too. Take care.
