Beer, diesel fumes and sunshine…
I was planning to write about the TerraTransport SD40 today, or perhaps the TerraTransport story once more at least - instead after a beer with my notepad down at the station yesterday I’ve been sketching out other ideas…
The ideas themselves can wait for another day but what a wonderful afternoon in the sunshine with the diesel gala and the chance to feel creative once more. The self imposed standards I seem to place upon myself can feel like shackles sometimes - writing every day is one of those important cornerstones of what I do - and I still surprise myself with the variety of work and thinking that gets shared here - and I’m proud of the little community of ‘regulars’ who follow along and some whom even engage and discuss things in comments. Thank you all of you.
So a beer and some headspace. A notebook and pen. Blank canvas and no pressure. The railway beats its own tune, and so with 80s music gently listing over from the cafe I find myself back to New England in the 1970s and pondering not how TerraTransport survived and thrived but if now the Wantage Terminal became the Ballard and Wantage - and more, where it fits in the New England map - and even more, some new layout ideas based upon this meandering. In part due to a conversation with Will Lloyd whom is doing something of the same with his Corsehorn project - albeit this side of the ocean, and a few decades earlier…
Whilst I find myself a loner in terms of modelling it is the comnection with similar minded souls that fuel this hobby for me. Sat at the station yesterday, quiet between trains, a handful of conversations with blog readers who’ve never spoken to me previously. A lovely feeling, to be able to enthuse and hopefully encourage others… perhaps that is what a lot of this is too…?
Mind, hopefully some of you will pay me to do some things too as enthusiasm doesn’t pay the bills! Until next time, more soon…
