Commission: Barclays from two stables…
Sometimes the Planet Industrials adventure seems like it was in another life, but echoes continue to filter through today and I’m proud of what we achieved. In the same breath, the conversion kits continue to allow modellers to represent a wider range of industrial locomotives…
This pair of Barclay’s are from two stables! The open cabbed a Hatton's example in a small box and the Pi cab conversion the Accurascale re-release in a humoungous box. Other than blackened tyres on the wheels (a great visual improvement) I detect no difference in quality.
This pair of models showcase both the quality of the original Planet Industrials cab conversion (No.22) and just now neat I can kit-bash / scratchbuild on the other (No.50).
Both are finished with custom decals I designed and had printed, based upon prototypes I have built previsiouly. The results show just what is possible - and if you have a different prototype in mind, I’m almost certainly able to help - so do get in touch.
On board pre-coloured Modelu crew are fitted - although I’m not convinced. They seem too pale and bright to my eye. I think on a RTR model they’re fine, on a hand finished and weathered example, you’d be better off with a painted figure. I had to wash the faces and hands on No.22 but the paint absorbed into the print and it was difficult to control the result.
Weathering is what brings and industrial to life - washes, airbrush and dry brushing all used to make the most of their character.
It has been a pleasure to work on this pair. If you’d like me to help you with your own industrial project then do get in touch, I can offer kit-builds, customisation or even scratchbuilds of prototypes in 4mm and beyond. My contact details are on the commissions page and in the menu. In the meantime, though, back to Monday… more soon…
