Distraction…
Distraction (noun)
“a thing that takes your attention away from what you are doing or thinking about”.
Perhaps it is cruel to describe this as distraction? Yet these small models have taken my attention, it is no longer focused on the layouts and other projects already in hand.
Childhood connection points, blended with adult skill and experience - recreating a sense of innocent excitement and the later frustration with detail of my Bachmann HO trainset…
Reconnecting then, perhaps to help ground myself; to remember where I came from, my story and the challenges I have overcome. Reminding myself that I can face more today and the future will be a moment I look back and remember Speedlink N gauge, writing books and magazines and making people happy directly or indirectly through the models I make and stories I tell.
So yes a distraction.
One I’m embracing for as long as it feels right.
Two sleeping dogs and still no coffee again this morning! Until next time, more soon…

A CN F-unit is definitely a worthwhile distraction James.

ReplyDeleteYou do that every day James. So thank you.
Thank you David.
DeleteThere's really nothing in the photo telling you this is N, James.
ReplyDeleteGilly and I talk a lot about distraction as we're both very prone to it. This week, I need to get things ready to take to Pewsey for the 009 Skills Day on Saturday; on the other hand, the Other Hobby beckons so I'm distracted by the care and feeding of 18650 batteries, portable ham radio for the use of...
As for F Units, some of my early toys were Lone Star "Treble 0" push along ones, which ran uncertainly on grey plastic track in, oh, about 1968 or so, I've still got one of the three I had. Even at that age, while I had some British rolling stock, I preferred running the box cars, flats, and tankers with the Fs. Golly, this is dredging up some ancient memories! 🤣
Cheers,
Simon.
Thanks Simon. I do love to hear what memories and stories my ramblings evoke in you all, thank you for sharing your memories.
