Commission: Peldon revival in 16mm…
Sometimes I do love the variety that crosses my bench. I was excited to bring this rather lovely Brandbright Peldon back to life…
If you have an older model, in any scale or gauge, that could do with some new life breathing into it mechanically or with regards its finish, perhaps just a simple repair through to fitting a new control system then do get in touch to discuss your requirements. The contact form is on the Commissions page.
Mechanically she was ok, but the electronics were dead. The bodywork was alright but the chassis was chipped as you’d expect from years of hard work on a garden railway.
I’ve built and modified enough large scale models that the commission wasn’t too challenging, I wanted to retain as much of the charm of the Brandbright cab controls as I could - in the end I’ve retained all the parts but only the on/off works. The charge socket has been relocated to underneath to allow the prototypical view through the chassis sides. Control is now Micron Radio.
I filled and smoothed the chassis - including the visible screw heads and repainted satin black. The bodywork was in reasonable condition and my customer wanted to retain the original green. I added black edge lined yellow detail, inspired by a photo of the prototype.
After re-assembly I sprayed the model with a full-satin lacquer which has toned her down nicely. She will run with the GVT stock I completed last year, so has a similar finish.
In the meantime, it was nice to take some photos out on the Dyfrdwy Tramway once more. Until next time, more soon…
