On video: RS23 Re-hash…
I really enjoyed building my RS23 last year from a Kaslo Shops kit - but I did it on a budget and the-used the Alco S4 sounds that came with the Bachmann chassis…
It ran well and sounded like an Alco S4 but sadly less like an RS23! This is no surprise, as whilst the former sported the Seymour 539 prime mover the S13 and RS23 had a 6 cylinder Alco 251…
Now you can head the difference yourselves…
Before…
After…
I think a thoroughly worthwhile £100 spent on an ESU Loksound and sound file. It has transformed the character of this already charming underdog. Perhaps in more recent times I’d have gone on to explore my interest in these plucky contenders, perhaps too the charm of the HMLX operation and how that too has transformed the layout itself… but right now I’m tired. Very tired. Physically after the show yesterday and emotionally too - almost completely exhausted of creativity so - it’s a surprising and comforting discovery to remember that just playing trains can help too - it isn’t all about making something. Until next time more soon…
