00-12 Manning Wardle and wagons...
It is exciting to see these mockups and designs evolve on screen - and hopefully it won't be long before they're physically with us too - the 3D printed locomotive parts are due later this month...
Since the last update I have been working up the first wagon in my 'range'. This is an almost scale representation of the end tipping wagons used on Fayle's tramway on Purbeck. The prototype were 3'9" but work well on 12mm gauge here - and I've managed to incorporate Greenwich couplings without having to massively change the proportions or height of the wagon.
It is a 3D printed chassis with etched brass fold up body, etched brass overlay for the end door and 1mm square styrene that the modeller will need to cut to length, to fit for the uprights. The brass body will have half etched detail, planks on the floor and on the outer faces of the sides (though obviously not on the inside, otherwise it would all fall apart). Wheels are 7mm disc from Mosskito and will be provided. I'm thinking we'll sell these in sets of three...
So the next step is to get the 3D parts ordered, and then get the etch artwork for these, and the locomotive drawn up and off to the etchers - and with a prevailing wind we'll still have prototypes at Narrow Gauge South at the end of April. If you can't get to the show, I'll share updates here - until next time, more soon...

James, I'm very excited by this! I cannot wait for the pre-orders to open. The wagons look like a perfect accompaniment to the loco.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave - test prints for the MW due here next week, wagon test prints ordered. Etch design completed yesterday - so all on track for NGS.
DeleteFantastic news!

DeleteI’m very much enjoying seeing these kits take shape, it’s almost a shame that I model 009! These multi-media style kits do make a refreshing change from the all-too-common ‘ready to plonk’ 3D printed bodies, and you’ve picked some attractive prototypes indeed. Can’t wait to see the kits finished and, who knows, I might yet branch off into 3’ gauge!
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Alfred
The wagons have couplings mountings at the usual 009 height, and the wheels could be slid in on the axles to 9mm gauge… they’d be a bit chunkier than a slate wagon but still not too big…
DeleteWill definitely bear that in mind as they'd probably look quite good alongside something like a GVT loco or maybe some sort of Hughes/Falcon locomotive. Always happy to take on a new project (as anybody who has seen my workbench will testify!) and I think the wagons would suit some of my other stock quite well! We shall see what happens, there's every chance those wagons will be joining my fleet...
DeleteThey look smashing; approximately how long will they be over the buffers?
ReplyDelete32mm
DeleteThanks for the info!
