Commission: Dolgoch in 0-16.5…
Two years since I’ve worked in this scale, and for the same customer - as Talyllyn is today joined by Dolgoch in 0-16.5 / NG7…
This model arrived having been assembled by a competent builder many years ago but was a little rough in places and the motor was worn out - an open frame ‘DS10’ style affair with a Romford worm and gear to the front axle. The cope includes replacing this, a repaint in a more realistic shade and full lining.
My customers preference was for a Coreless motor so we opted for a quality option from High Level that fitted with just the smallest amount of modification to the body. I also added some new pickup wiring at this stage. Work moved on to the body, and a little filling and smoothing before adding one missing pipe in front of the cab.
The repaint started with Brunswick green (well, deep bronze green really) and a bit of detail painting of buffer beams, footplate and pipework before this was sealed with gloss lacquer. Lining decals from Fox were applied and the black edging painted in by hand. Crests are from Endon and plates from Light Railway Stores, and a final coat of satin lacquer protects the finish. Glazing was added with glue-n-glaze.
The result should match sister ‘Talyllyn’, and runs beautifully smoothly despite the agricultural gearbox. It has been a great deal of fun breathing new life into this old model. I enjoy working on all types of modelling commission, if you’d like to work with me on your own creation please do get in touch to discuss your requirements and I’m more than happy to provide a fixed price proposal. For now, until next time, more soon…
