Commission: Duke in 009…

I don't do Thomas commissions - I've said that before, I'll probably say it again. That said, I am happy to create models without faces, without big garish numbers and bright colours - and today let me introduce, I think, my favourite character from the Railway Series, Duke, no longer lost...

I've worked with these beautiful Peco models in the past - the Kato design and manufacture is superb and they come apart into seperate parts for painting nice and easily. The model is finished in the now discontinued Humbrol 133 and hand lined in satin black.

The etched plates are a custom job from Light Railway Stores - I asked Steve to stretch the plate to cover the Kato mounting, so the letter spacing on DUKE is a little extended - but I think works well. The crest on the tender is clearly not a Mid Sodor, but actually a Ffestiniog - but the shape is the same - and is clearly not going to be legible in this scale!

The finished model re-assembled runs, as you'd expect, like a Swiss watch. If you'd like me to re-work one of your own models I can offer a complete make over, as here, or just a rename/renumber. Get in touch to discuss your requirements. Until next time, more soon...
