Commission: War Department Dean Goods…
In 2023 I built a layout titled ‘Bishopsbourne’, a caricature of a real location where a tunnel was repurposed as a home for one of the large rail mounted guns during the First World War…
My customer had one of the War Dept. liveried Dean Goods from Oxford Diecast - however he was aware the prototype stabled at Bishopsbourne had been fitted with Pannier tanks and condensing equipment. Not feeling confident to add these himself he asked if I’d be able to scratch-build an approximation. I could not find a drawing but did find a few good photos to work from - the result captures the spirit of the real locomotive but acknowledges the inaccuracies introduced by this approach.
It’s always lovely to see my creations in their new homes - but even more enjoyable to see Bishopsbourne again too..,
Sometimes though an artistic approach to a model is exactly the right one - and in this case the combination of Oxford tooling and livery application has blended perfectly with my additions. This looks ‘right’ and fits the style and detail level of the layout itself…

What a ugly looking thing! I bet it was an interesting project to take on though. You've done a cracking job as always.
