Taking my time, time taking me…

Denton Road - I’ve spent countless blogposts and even a video extolling its virtues and the stories I can tell within its confines. A stage set for 90s memories, epitomised by the 90 and 158 in their sector liveries seen here…

These models arrived a long time ago - and it was months before I took a brush to the 90. It has been even longer with the 158, I’ve certainly taken my time…

The units were new in the early 1990s. Even today they’re kept clean. Capturing the look of a journey along the models form becomes more than just colour in N, it is about sheen too - and balancing the both results in a model that transcends its size, it’s scale, and becomes a machine that allows time to take me… take me somewhere else, just like the prototype…

These sleek modern looking trains felt a light year ahead of my favourite 150s and their Pacer brethren. The dark grey window band aped the feel of an Intercity train, but here, I was travelling to the North East, not London… to university and the rest of my life.

So I feel deeply about these trains. I guess that led to some trepidation about the subtlety of finish required for a ‘new’ unit, especially in N… I needn’t have worried of course, my old favourites 33/98 have done a lovely job on the underframe and lower body side. The roof was knocked back with some matt lacquer and exhaust added to the inner ends. The result a much more believable model, blending well with the rest of the layout, my other models, and crying out for somewhere to stretch its legs…

For now, posed quietly on Denton Road my imagination can do the rest. Until next time, more soon…
