What’s in a name?
It was whilst enjoying watching ‘Wantage’ in 009 at the weekend that I remembered my error on Coalbridge Street. Inspired by the Wantage Tramway and overlaid on a New England back story; the connection point extended to the two customers at the end of the line…
Clark’s flour mill and Langton’s builders merchant - but there it was, an unforced error! In my haste I had originally mis-remembered the coal merchants name at Wantage as Langton, in-fact it was Langford. I’d always meant to address this but operation and other detailing got in the way.
However, the layout is visiting Larkrail next month and so a timely opportunity to correct the anomaly. Creating and printing a replacement was a just a moments work but then with the old sign removed an opportunity to up the ‘Lavalley’ connection; this yard was inspired by Lavalley at Claremont, and the sign on their builders yard. As such I added a few finishing touches to the old framing before re-attaching the sign and weathering the edges and back.
The result is pleasing. Perhaps one of the smaller jobs, it was achievable and has encouraged me to dig out the MDF for the fiddleyard extension. This is less important for Larkrail as a one day show, but I feel imperative for the two days at Uckfield late in the year!
With that complete of course there was a chance for a quick operating session and that gentle reminder of how lovely this layout is, how smoothly the Claremont and Concord 44t runs and the soothing effect of just running some trains. Until next time, more soon…
