Commission: Another NGG16 in 009…

Last week I shared a completed NGG16, and I’m back, doing the same this morning. I actually built this pair in parallel…

This seemed a good idea at the start, but by the time I’d assembled eighth set of valve gear it was wearing a little thin! Beyond the chassis work though the painting and lining were much more straight forward and enjoyable. The detail of the Michael Tucker 3D printed kits is good and respond well to careful painting. On this example I custom mixed a green to my customers specification and then lined with yellow edged black, finished with my custom WHR decals (available, when I have stock from Light Railway Stores).

The etched plates, are as you’d imagine, from Light Railway Stores as well - real coal in the bunker and some jewels for headlights. The cab is difficult to glaze with thick 3D printed sides so I use glue-n-glaze which although leaves a slight miniscus effect at the edges, I think is preferred to windows recessed a scale 8”.
