Cement season...

First it was four seasons. Then, mud season, now cement season. I wonder what the greeting card for it says?

When we reopened the B&W track for cement traffic the 45 tonner was enough. We said that we would move any car we could get to and with it we did and still do. The grade up is hard on these bones and we’re going to need more push.

The plan is to move a pair of GE’s down to here. The F in future can be found in their FDL prime movers. An ex-TerraTransport U18 and ex-Conrail U23 will be here by summer. For now, this magic happened.

601 was sold to a new operator who was close enough to let it come home for a visit. We’ll say that sound was a wind rustling leaves but it’s really a sigh of relief. More push to flatten out the climb.

We’ve been trying an ambitious combination of two engines. 601 leading the train uphill from the interchange but using the smaller 45 tonner to help get things rollling with a shove from the tail end. DPU is what CN calls it. Definitely Pray-Un.

Once up at the yard 601 can be set aside for a rest. Those little siderods will get to work. Already on the tail end of the train they’ll start breaking off pairs and threes of hoppers to push across the unloader.
