Commission: 70s era wagon weathering in OO...

A day out from it's normal slot, this weeks 'Commission' thread is today and I'm sharing a few more of the 16T mineral wagons that were part of last week's weathering marathon...

A trio of the rather lovely 'Accurascale' examples, the rebodied MCO are a firm 1970s favourite. This trio are a mix of flaking paint, body damage and replacement panels - all created in enamels in my usual manner. The rust markings (33/62/98) were painted on first, then sealed with a coat of satin lacquer. Then a wash of 33/98 is applied, slightly heavier on some than others, and removed with a wide flat brush moistened and regularly cleaned with white spirit. The chassis and interior are weathered with the same shade. The final step is to airbrush some 133/245/27004 along the base of the sides, the under frame and insides, softening the brush marks a touch and giving a homogeneity to the fleet.

 

 

 

In addition, this CAP brake van from Bachmann had the same treatment - the patchy roof was 245 stippled on with a sponge before being softened with the airbrushed mix. Handrails have worked well - this was the weathered wash painted on, left to go tacky then removed, careful to not do a great job, with the wide flat brush. Foot boards also got a little extra 98.

Where are they heading?
