Commission: Polish Lyntog in HO…
This was something a little different and really great fun. My customer had spent time in his youth in Poland and fondly remembered the peculiar LKR liveried ex Danish ‘Lyntog’ diesel units…
Sharing something of the Southern’s DEMU with a diesel engine on board, but the Sprinter with hydraulic transmission - based on the TEE from Germany, originally in Danish service they ran back to back as 10 car units, but in Poland they ran as 4 car trains - as depicted here.
The brief was to remove the DSB branding and numbers and recreate the LKR finish. I was lucky my customer provided extensive research material which helped immensely. The Roco paint finish made removing the original numbers quite tricky and so, because in the photos the DSB on the cab sides was still just about visible, I opted to retain the printing and mask and paint a silver patch. The result is quite pleasing, you can, in certain lights see the original marking, just as the prototype.
All markings were custom designed, the larger decals and lettering hand drawn to match the prototype more closely. Yellow ends were masked and sprayed, and then once all applied, the markings were sealed with a satin lacquer. A light weathering on the chassis and roof of the coaches, and a little heavier on the power car have brought the finish to life.
The results closely match the photos and reference material. The subtle streaking of the silver bodywork aping that of the prototype. The Roco model is well engineered and captures well the sleek profile to my uneducated eyes, this is an imposing and impressive model when set up.
I’m happy to work on any type of modelling commission, any prototpe, scale, or gauge within reason. Get in touch to discuss your requirements, my details are on the commission page of this website. Until next time, more soon…
