Penpont vans…

Penpont dries, despite its modest size, is quite the delight. Whilst the operation is simple and the setting neutral, my imagination extends both the scene and the story…

Whilst things normally revolve around shuttling clay hoods about, what about the higher quality clays? Well, it turns out they are handled in vans - and whilst the odd one can be tagged on the usual hoods, sometimes an extra train runs for this purpose. Branch regular 08113 is pictured shunting the ‘vans’ at the dries on an autumnal day in 1979.

Penpont dries has an uncertain future - whilst it isn’t for sale as such, I’m wondering if it’s long term future is here or if it might be better enjoyed and utilised in a new home? I think an offer around £500 would secure this little delight, its travel case, the 08, hoods and van, the battery pack and cable and just need a controller to complete… perhaps… but perhaps it lives here a little longer?

Anyhow - for now, enjoy this scene - and if you missed it, the recent video…

Until next time, more soon…

  1. It's a superb little masterpiece James. I've watched the video several times. It's inspired me to build a little something myself and an extremely kind chap helped to ensure the uncoupling.. thank you

    1. Hi James. I agree with Roger, this is terrific. It's really got me thinking about using the same track plan but in O scale and with a taller warehouse background to create more of an enclosed alley feeling... Obviously it'll not fit in a box though... Mmmm...

    2. Thanks Ian, glad to have been a good influence. This really is just the purest distillation of Paxton Road really.
