Hungarian forestry steam in 009...

I seem to gather projects quicker than hot dinners, but the quality of a free download of the Hungarian 399 class in a 3DS file intrigued me...
It opens in Sketchup and uploads ok to Shapeways, but as a 3D life size model it's going to suffer with thin walls. When compared to available outside frames chassis the logical but mad concept sprung to mind. Remove the rear axle of the Minitrains Brigadelok, move the rest back one place, cut off the rest of the coupling rod and voila!
However I need to look at the model properly first! More soon(ish)...

  1. Is this the one you've got from here: http://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/vehicle/train/mav-399-steam-locomotive ? Looking inside the chimney, the walls are really thin and make me worrying for the rest of the model for 3D printing. I think you'll be better of remaking the whole thing, as it will be quicker than repairing every single part. Knowing all the sizes, it will be a bit easier than making one from scratch. Lovely engine!

  2. Yes it is that one actually - although I got it elsewhere... free download, lovely detail. I have managed to get it uploaded to Shapeways and fixed the thin walls, but I suspect it would be better to start again - so for now it's on hold whilst I focus on the locos I have already started.
