Commission: Lyd2 in 009...

This model has been a labour of love, not only building a custom one off chassis but also in the achieving the fine pin striped lining on the sides...
Based upon the Worsley Works etched body, a Graham Farish 08 chassis was completely stripped down and a new chassis designed in 3D and printed on a resin based printer before re-assembly with a new wheelbase - after this proved successful new rods and a jack shaft were added.
The bodywork includes a set of 3D printed details I designed some time ago featuring all the headlights and couplings, along with bonnet vents. Combined with the handrails and custom Narrow Planet etched plates the model has plenty to differentiate it from a run of the mill scratch build...
The paint finish was fairly easy to apply apart from the fiddly red pin striping - I didn't add this on my own version of the model built a few years ago - because I feared lining transfers would not settle in the panel lines. This time I used a bow pen but it did require plenty of touching up, both blue and white sides, to get a neat finish. In the photos it's still a little ragged in places, but in the flesh it's a lovely subtle finish that looks clean and looked after but somewhat aged, as the prototype did until recently repainted at Gelert's Farm. The finishing touch is a light weathering of the chassis and bonnet top.
The re-jigged 08 chassis offers a world of possibilities, if you have a prototype in mind I can build you a custom chassis using the basis of the CAD work already completed. Glad the 3D printed chassis worked out for you, as you say, this opens a world of possibilities for you.
