Friday Update: Twenty-one Eight Twenty...
A busy week again, but with perhaps a little less of a mojo to keep the blog up to date, however some new stuff to share on today's update...
The big project this week is this lovely Backwoods Miniatures On30 conversion of a Mantua H0 scale mallet. This project has been a mix of soldering and kit bashing - the supplied donor model was a saddle tank, rather than side tank, that complicated matters a little. The kit is well illustrated and parts designed neatly - and with the rivet detail pre-formed and the roof pre-rolled you could easily assemble with just glue, but for strength I chose to solder the tanks and cab together.
The rest of the work has been adding details and forming a myriad of pipework! However, the end result is pleasingly busy and a feast for the eyes. She's been primed and is drying off now, so hopefully it will go black next week before some careful weathering.
The next big commission is a 2ft gauge prototype, a small gas mechanical in 1/2" scale. I've sourced wheels and a drive train for this, and now need to turn the axles down to gauge - this is one for my friend Steve's lathe, so hoping to pop over for a socially distanced cup of tea and some modelling next week.
Finally, I'm pleased to share that Vowchurch will be off to a new home this weekend. My other two micro layouts, Canal Street Wharf (£200) and Kirsten Torfwerk (£350) are also for sale, get in touch if you're interested. I also offer a layout design or/and/or build service, either working out a design for your project, building your ideal layout, or both - get in touch for a personal proposal. In the meantime, have a good weekend. More soon...
