On Video: Bear Creek layout overview...

This weekend Bear Creek moved into the workshop on the shelf formerly occupied by Pont-y-dulais, which has moved up two shelves, and as this stage signals a kind of emotional 'completion' I have put together a short video overview of the layout...

Whilst there are things that need finishing off (like windscreen wipers on the diesel, switch stands on the turnouts and perhaps some old ties, rails etc) it's 'done'. I will come back to it, but for now I'm enjoying looking at it, playing with it and taking photographs 'in it'.

I hope you enjoy the video, my layout tours seem to be well received, and have fun putting them together. If you have any questions about techniques or aspects seen in the photos or video then do leave a comment either on YouTube or here, and I will get back to you.

I do offer a custom layout design and build service specialising in smaller cameo scenes, although happy to work on larger projects. If I can help you make your dreams become reality to get in touch via the contact form on the menu (home page), Facebook page or the forums. In the meantime, more soon...

  1. Outstanding and inspiring. Can’t believe how well the back scene turned out considering it was your first attempt.

    1. Thank you, that is very kind. I’m pleased it is in some way inspiring, my hope is this blog encourages others in their modelling at times. I’ve painted amateur water colour landscapes my whole life, it I’ve never attempted to try this in the context of a backscene, is all I meant.

    2. Hi James, what a way to start my Saturday...got into work, checked Platform 1 then made a cuppa and sat down to watch your video before going back out to do a few other little jobs around the station.
I love the elegance and simplicity of this scene; it very much brings to mind some of the photos and videos of similar operations that I've seen.
I have a few H0 and H0n3 bits and pieces that at some point I'd like to do a small layout with, your layout provides great inspiration for that project although it'll have to wait until we've moved.
      Many thanks for this,
      Simon.

    3. Simon, thank you, that’s a lovely picture of railway life and pleased you enjoyed the video. These small layouts are under-rated in play value and they let you scratch an itch in a smaller space. You could imagine a similar scene with a mix of H0 and H0n3…
