The calm before the storm...

It's late winter 1979 at Pont-y-dulais and the resident Austerity is seen lifting a load of empties back to the colliery...


Here, the line crosses the flat bottomed valley before the gradient steepens for the fierce ascent to the mine, the crew have prepared by throwing the fire full of coal and keeping the firebox door closed until they're at the top! 

Pictured on Kinross, my Canadian 'Prince Edward Island' cameo, the detailed and repainted DJM J94 is  with a rake of largely internal user wagons. You can still buy these from Light Railway Stores (where I believe they're still on a discount) and I've done a video on the weathering, in a tutorial style you can watch here.
