Coalbridge Street: an island interlude…
When I sold ‘Kinross’ a few years ago I was deliberate in my action to retain the stock. I didn’t over think this, rather just accepting the desire to hold on to some models evidence of both my love of the prototype and craft…
The moment was only fleeting. A quick switching of the Ballard and Wantage car reminded me both why I love this model and why it’s probably just a touch too big for the layout in its current form. That said, I did have a quick check on eBay for any 70tonners for sale…
Whilst Coalbridge Street will always be New England, the yard, with its lightweight rail and neutral colours does seem to lend itself to ‘anywhere our heart takes us’ (last week it even hosted an N Class 37). Last night I was curious about the ‘spare’ GE70 ton switcher I started work on here several years ago - sadly a quick run and I remembered why it had been abandoned. The Canadian example was built upon the last iteration of this chassis - a much improved truck design with brass bushes and a worm that is always aligned to the gear that pivots on top of the truck. Placing this on the rails and running her brought a smile to my face, and more, a warmth inside… I love this model.
I stole a photo.
Whilst commission work graces my bench providing immense variety it is the steady pace of British N and North American HO that I keep unashamedly personal. Sharing both with you is a great privilege, thank you for reading. Until next time more soon…
