On Video: Howling Sou’wester…

Join me for another 25 minutes of switching ‘down on Beaverbrook’. We’re watching the Halifax South Western 1751, an ex-CN GP9RM…

Filmed using my iPhone and home made mini camera stand, with realism in mind, it’s interesting to watch back and feel something else… a sense perhaps of my deep love for this model. I’m telling a story yes, but it’s one not well rehearsed but instead just part of me. The train, the movements, the camera angles can change each time but this story, it just exists, just lives, happens if you like, through every photograph or video. In my head and heart Beaverbrook is real.

Visiting is hence always a pleasure.
Until next time, more soon…

  1. James I do like to hear the sound of the big locomotives. Halifax South Western 1751 looks fantastic on Braverbrook. Thanks for the video James.

    1. Hi James
Another great and evocative piece of model railfanning . Although I think I can understand what is happening, a few words on what the crew were doing might have made it even more enjoyable. However, it felt like coming across the crew switching, and looking on enjoying the action without really knowing the next move- unless of course you could have a conversation with the crew.

I understand what you mean about the layout living and feeling real. I don’t know whether you visited the real Beaverbrook but think you have mean to the Maritimes and if so that comes through in the modelling, which makes us all feel we know Beaverbrook’s railroad.

Although my layout is freelance I know where it would be and by using the real Longview area, and its lumber and pulp mills, as a locale means I feel I know what would be the history and operation, if the layout existed in the real world and that makes it live for me

      Best regards
      Alan

  2. I've only just sat down to watch this today James. Excellent stuff. I've always teetered on the edge of digital sound. I think it's fabulous but have never quite got the funds to buy a controller and chip a loco. I have a model of 37207 which would be a prime candidate. Your GP9/18? Sorry, I can't remember which, reminds me of a high nose Athearn GP9 I repainted as a teenager into the Burlington Northern 'white face' livery of the 90's, I couldn't face painting nose stripes, totally unprototypical but fun to do. Great modelling spurring great memories as always! Take care.

    1. Thanks Tom.
It’s a big outlay, getting the controller and your first chip and speaker… I’ve deliberately only allowed myself DCC on Beaverbrook for this reason!
