On video: New kid on the block…

I have been really surprised and encouraged by the welcome that Beaverbrook has found on YouTube, filming operations is never a chore and the videos out perform most other content by about 400%…

In this latest, filmed over the holidays, I enjoyed the newest locomotive on the roster - HMLX RS23 8032. This model may not have the most high quality drive or sound fitted but it’s a real pleasure to play, sorry switch the layout with. 20 odd minutes will pass by all too quickly whilst the crew swap a few loads for empties before heading for home.

Until next time, more soon…

  1. Hi James

Have enjoyed your north American content over the last few days. The switcjing on Beaverbrook is always worth seeing. Your camera work just takes me there and stimulates ideas. In fact I am now off to the loft where it is now 5am on a June morning in 1962 and I will be switching out the first woods train of the day

    Best regards
    Alan

  2. Hi James,
    Happy New Year!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to the video, I really need to get something built that I can operate indoors, as until I get the garage insulated, it's far too cold to spend much time out there!
The DCC sound is great, especially on diesels, and having the bells and horn adds to it, making for a really immersive experience.
I bought my copy of Railway Modeller today, and it was great to see Paxton Road featured, especially following on from seeing Traeth Hafren in BRM.
    All the best for 2025,
    Simon.

    2. Yes, the house is great thanks, and living just close enough to Ross-on-Wye town centre to be able to walk in means we mostly don't need to drive that much, however I had a nice few hours out on Tuesday, among other things I found the site of Drybrook Halt.
You can certainly see where it was, especially in comparison with photos, though it closed fairly early on. It's got several features that I think would make for an interesting model.
      All the best,
      Simon.

  3. Excellent stuff James.

That cardboard 'tripod' works really well. I watched on a large PC screen and at the low viewing angles the loco and freight cars were HUGE - they filled the screen had real presence!

    Cheers,
    Ian

    1. Thanks Ian - yes, sometimes I put it on the TV - it's crazy how good it all looks considering its filmed on an old iPhone SE2.
