Coalbridge Street: Paving the way…
Over the holiday I’ve enjoyed working on this latest cameo layout, and energy has been focused upon the left hand side of the scene in particular…
So whilst the above photo shows the result this isn’t how things started! A paper mock up of the road crossing showed the rough shape, a ‘brass rubbing’ of the track provided a template to transform to 1mm Daler card. Glued in place with superglue along the sleepers and PVA elsewhere this was sealed with MDF sanding sealer, below…
With the road surface sealed I could build up the scenery with filler and paint with emulsion. The remaining sleepers and rails were painted with enamels before ballasting.
Before I could think about road surfaces though I needed to finish the static grass and scenery along the back, so in went various lengths and shades of static grass, Woodland Scenics ‘undergrowth’ and some ‘trees’ were posed to check the feel of textures and overall composition.
The polished results you often see on my Facebook or Instagram pages are not created overnight. Seeing the process here, warts and all, hopefully shows that in fact it is a series of well worn and comfortable steps, followed from experience using familiar materials. It is not until later in this composition that I will be out of my comfort zone and experimenting. That can wait until tomorrow! Until then, more soon…
