Down on Beaverbrook: Days of cement...

It hasn't always been like this... today's Beaverbrook is a shadow of its former self. The Co-op keeps the spur open, but the days of long trains of cement for Pi are gone...

This old photo reminds us of those days past, when an extra would run just to serve the cement spur... 5 loads being wrestled up the twisting and undulating track, laid with the road, across the land, following its form, as one... I can imagine the racket the RS23 is making here - for whilst it looks flat the approach to the end of spur is anything but and the roller coaster of up and down keeps the engineer on his toes balancing throttle and brake... we don't want to snap a coupling.

Today the spur still sees the odd car spotted, but rather than directly at the cement plant - that siding is lifted - it's now in the transload siding. Times change, wheels roll, we'll keep enjoying 'the show' down on Beaverbrook...

Until next time, more soon...
