On video: Wantage 1973…

Coalbridge Street is a lovely muse, one which I visit most weeks for a shuffle of cars around, its tactile and simple form supporting the chance to find myself once more…

Operating the layout hence could be described as a mindful practice - and one I’ve spoken about previously both here and on YouTube, with other models as the backdrop. This time though it is the late autumn of 1973 and we’re in Wantage, NH.

If you’ve enjoyed the video and want to remember the relatively short conception of this project, use the ‘Coalbridge Street’ label to find more. Until next time, more soon…

  1. Thanks, James. That was strangely hypnotic and a terrific piece of subtle modelling. Jonathan

    1. Thank you Jonathan. Listened to a fascinating ‘In our Time’ this week on the subject and can see the parallel…

  2. Hi James, how very true your finishing comments on the video. I can remember how it was exactly the same for me many many years ago. I had a very small layout then, no scenery, but it was my retreat. I delivered cars to destinations routed by coded thumbtacks in the roofs or loads of the cars. I really should get started on building a layout again. It's been about 47 years. I wish I could have had pictures, but no camera in those days, cost was prohibitive. But I did make a little mark in model railroading back then. If you have a chance, check out kitbash.ourpage.com that does show some of my work back then. Cordially, Gerry

    1. Thank you Gerry - I enjoyed taking a look back through your website... my Dad bought a few of the Roundhouse kits so I remember some of these models I think, from promotional material at that time. A layout today doesn't need to be a grand affair, it is sometimes nice to just run some trains... best of luck!
