The death and birth of a shortline...

The almost imperceptible change in weather. No longer warm enough to venture out without a coat, but still bright enough to enjoy the gentle caress of late autumn sun on your face...

Winter in Wantage.
The year has seen the death of the Wantage Terminal and re-birth with the Ballard and Wantage.
Green shoots of hope, tempered by the cold.
The cold bringing salt traffic, and with it life to the fledgling operation.
"If we can just keep moving cars until Spring, we'll be alright" I hear the owner/operator/engineer mention to the staff at Clark's mill - and let us hope the plucky little 45t holds out until finances permit some larger power...

The death and birth of a shortline.

Come and see Coalbridge Street (all 1000mm of it) at the 'Small Layout Design - Construction' book launch at The Titfield Thunderbolt, this Saturday.

Sadly I'll not be able to see Coalbridge at Titfield but both new books arrived from them today.

  2. Wantage and Ballad just breaths those marginal shortlines that hang on to traffic and serve the community. I hope it continues. Just needs a timber company to move in as happened to the Quincy in CA and things will look up. Yes, I do like your stories.

I also have the your new titles on my desk and am very impressed

    Best regards
    Alan
