Commission: European HO wagons…
A trio of European themed wagons, here, reminding me of Kohlenbachbrücke - wait, these ARE for my old layout, David has commissioned me to weather up some stock for him, ahead of a photoshoot for Model Railway Companion 3...
Yes - Model Railway Companion 3 is a work in progress - but as with Renfrew in the previous issue, we'll combine David's words (and models) with my layout to co-create something unique and special for this third instalment. A simple re-working of these Roco models has seen them receive a sympathetic finish using similar shades and colours to the wagons I originally weathered for the layout.
I don't know what they do at the works, but these tank wagons do carry some corrosive material! The finish here was achieved with a general wash of 98/33 first, then 28 to suggest the paint has been dis-coloured and faded by the chemical contents, and then 62 for the staining itself. A multi-stage approach, toned down with the 133/245/27004 airbrush mix.
The vans more simply a 33/98 wash and some detail painting, softened again with the airbrush.
The results have a familiarity that should blend with the existing stock and layout nicely. I can't wait to share this all with you later in the year. If you have some ready to run models you'd like me to weather or work over for you, then do get in touch. These smaller commissions can often be fitted in around larger more complicated builds. Until next time, more soon...
