Welcome to another Friday Update, the second if the summer break. A mix of modelling, trips and holidays this week, but enough to share to warrant a sit down with a coffee, if that’s you’re usual approach with these…
It is easier to caption the photos when I’m updating via the iPad, so excuse the readability of today’s post. Normal service will resume soon!

| A trip early this week to ‘Making Tracks’, I left with mixed feelings of ‘wouldn’t it be nice’ to have somewhere to run trains, wasn’t it great to see children and families enjoying playing trains, but also, slightly underwhelmed at the ‘realism’ of operation, as well as relative lack of trains for something so vast. My son enjoyed it, perhaps he is more the target audience! |
 |
| Another commission in progress, despite the holiday! The Shapeways order of my Claud Hamilton CAD work arrived and is ready for cleaning up. Some minor adjustments but otherwise moods like it will fit well… |
 |
| …whilst also pictured my Scottish 37 is out to enjoy the idea of her on a train of air braked opens - I’m expecting a further pair for my birthday taking the take to a respectable 6. |
 |
| At ‘Making Tracks’ I had a chance to handle an unreleased Accurascale 60 - and have a good chat with Steve Purves. Always nice to catch up with old friends. |
 |
| My good friend Chris put me onto both of these, named checked by two modellers I deeply admire in YouTube videos (or video blogs, if you like) in the past few weeks. Southern Alberta Rail (Grant Eastman) and Micro Model Railways (Ian Holmes), thanks both. |
 |
| Final goodbye to Mathry, as Mum moves to Cardiff at the end of the month, |
So a busy week again, but whilst the kids holidays continue mine does not - Monday should see me back at my bench working on creating dream models for you all again - I’ve missed it, it will be nice to sat there once again, there is plenty and variety awaiting! Have a good weekend - and until next time, more soon…

Dear James,
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the regional railway liveried sprinter that is going to the mid hants railway?
Hello Ben, yes I have seen that… I’d love one here on the Llangollen!
DeleteThank you for the mention James.
ReplyDeleteNo problem Ian, thank you!
DeleteI‘ve just seen making tracks at The Greatest Gathering and while it was impressive, it didn’t actually detain me very long. I think I’m going to have to make a visit to Pendon to renew my faith in big model railways.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see it in the Cathedral, and to see the families enjoying it - more than the layout itself.
DeleteI’m similar in I do struggle with the concept of operations for large or super large layouts. Although working in the rail industry and appreciation of timetabling along with the standards for how infrastructure is built I do at time feel frustrated. Depends what you trying to achieve. Playing trains or prototypical operation in a specific time period. But I do agree that if you had large space to have such a layout especially in 4mm does open some possibilities although it would become huge labour of love to build something alone. I imagine as team effort progress could be made more quickly. I would personally love to see making tracks build a 2mm layout is such size because it would represent several miles of rail, as 35 foot in 2mm is a scale mile. Good for thought.
