Friday Update: Twenty-two Eight Twenty-five…
This is getting silly now, where did the last seven days go? I’m sure the kids aren’t appreciating this either as school return hurtles towards them. It has been a varied week in the workshop, worth a wander through the various projects as usual. Grab a drink and take a seat, and we’ll begin…
It has been rather lovely to work on another UK industrial prototype this week. A Railway-mania kit of the Bagnall arrived earlier this year and took its turn on the bench this week. The kit uses a Hornby Austerity drive combined with a 3D printed body. What sets this one apart are the rather lovely etched valve gear parts designed by Michael Edge, which, as they’re nickel silver, are strong yet easy to solder. Generally well designed I’ve enjoyed bringing the kit to life. Discussions with my customer now to ascertain details like whether I’m filling those buffer beam slots and fitting 3 links, and whether we’re doing the ‘as built’ or ‘preserved’ version of the ‘Steel Company of Wales’ livery. If you have a kit you’d like me to turn from a collection of parts and good intention to a real model, I’m happy to discuss your requirements. Get in touch!
This week has also seen the completion of this HO scale re-livery and weathering of a Lyntog diesel express passenger train. My customer remembers these in Polish service from his youth and so we’ve reworked the DSB livery and retained some elements (like above - where as per the prototpe, the outline is still visible under the new LKR markings). Weathering all four cars have brought the model to life, I can’t wait to share photos in a few weeks. If you have an unusual project then I’m happy to discuss work in all scales and gauges.
Lametton is edging over the finish line. A sign and some lamps arrived this week from Modelu, perhaps I’ve over signed in this instance, but I think painted it will be a bit of good fun, and can always be replaced in future. Fantastic service from Modelu in this instance, less than a week turnaround!
We’ll finish with a few from last weekend. On Saturday it was lovely to join a friend and blog reader for a trip to Corwen and back, as well as show him around the workshop. On Sunday I enjoyed the Glyndyfrdwy shuttle almost to myself. Sadly two weekends without much advertising and low numbers have seen this little experiment prematurely halted. This weekend will see the service operate as a B timetable, but hence, I’m not sure if the station cafe will be open in the village or not - I may have had my last pint at the station this year…
The weekend will see bank holiday travellers jam up the A5 - but I’ll be making the most of the timetable, riding some trains, reading some books and doing some modelling. I hope you can all enjoy yourselves. Until next time, more soon…
