Porthgain: good bye for now…
Porthgain. Probably my favourite place on earth, the mix of rugged coastline and industrial archeology, discovered as a teenager and a love affair since. I am going to miss it…
But miss it I will. Mum is leaving Pembrokeshire later this month and moving to near Cardiff. It is the right thing for her, but I will miss spending time in this truly beautiful part of the world.

| Porthgain harbour, it is always difficult to imagine the noise of the crushers working and how cramped things would feel with one or two coasters wedged in to this tiny harbour. |

| A last look, from the place where the track for the quarry (left) and workshop/blacksmith/office was (right). Look at that view. I love this place. |
Goodbye, for now. I’m sure to return but we will both have changed, until then I’ll always have my memories, thank you, I won’t forget you…

Scale drawings, archive material and old photos.... sounds like a plan for building a little something or other... creating a 3d memory you can delve into in the workroom. Lovely photographs James.
ReplyDeleteHope the move goes well.

I’ve never quite managed to distill this to a workable layout - but I would love to…
DeleteHow beautiful! I love places like that, having grown up somewhere not dissimilar. Fascinated to see Porthgain railway had an Irish connection in its 0-4-2T from the Lough Swilly.
DeleteIt’s a rather unusual prototype, but the place is wonderful, so it is a curious muse, I’ve not quite figured it out yet. I did wonder about 15mm /ft on 45 track in the garden at one stage…
