Commission: Not Thomas, an E2 in OO…
I don't do Thomas commissions - but, this isn't really a Thomas Commission... although, my customer was particularly taken by the little blue engine, enough to re-create him in some form...
This then, is a OO gauge model using the Sparksholt Custom Creations 3D print, mated with a Bachmann Jinty chassis and some finer details added from brass and odds and ends from the parts box. Finished in the London Brighton and South Coast Railway freight livery with rather nice gilt decals, custom finished with red (rather than black) shading from Endon Valley.
Inside her fully furnished cab the upper sheets are painted cream and the backhead picked out in appropriate shades of copper and brass. The Jinty chassis is a reasonable match, and required just a little tweaking to fit. I fabricated some false frames to aid this and hide empty space where there shouldn't be any - the result, I think is certainly passable and means you have a good running, solid performing model with little fuss.
If you'd like me to undertake a similar commission I can work in all scales and gauge. You can contact me here, with the form on the menu (or on the left) or via Facebook (no account required) where you will find my email address (not here, to avoid spam). Until next time, more soon...

That's come out lovely, James!
ReplyDeleteI was given a Hornby E2, in the original LB&SCR Umber, for my birthday/Christmas shortly after the model was launched.
Research into the prototypes (both the school and public libraries had excellent railway sections, strongly biased towards the local lines), revealed that they'd been regularly used on the somewhat unsung goods-only branch that sneaked off from Eastbourne towards the sea, ending up at the prosaically named "Ballast Hole Siding" and serving several interesting and diverse industries in the process.
My E2 ended up getting a coat of black paint and SMS waterside Bullied "Sunshine" letters and numbers.
I could be tempted, if I found a mint example, to leave it in the Umber as several suitable wagon kits lurk in the stash...though there's a Hornby-Dublo R1 in the "vintage" box waiting for a fettle and a coat of gloss black paint to give the unused sheet of SMS "Sunshine" transfers I bought a while back half a chance to work...hmmm...
May be up your way at the weekend,
Cheers,
Simon.
Let me know if you are, I’ll be about at the weekend.
