Friday Update: Twenty-nine Eight Twenty-five…
I’ll blame it on the bank holiday, but equally, it could just be that etched kit construction is all consuming! Not much to share today, but plenty of progress never the less, grab a coffee and join me for a short walk through…
Lametton is complete! It awaits collection (and a photo shoot!) but as I live with the layout I spot compositions like this, where the daylight shining over the static grass hi-lights the natural undulations and variations in texture I am always keen to represent on my cameo layouts. I hope to take some photos and a video next week, watch this space!
The main focus this week has been this Alan Gibson O class kit - built in EM gauge. I’ve enjoyed revisiting etched kit construction, metalwork and soldering but my poor fingers haven’t! Burnt and sore, but the results are pleasing and I hope to have the majority of this together by the end of next week and then onto some 16mm builds… the work bench is nothing if not varied!
Unseen activity this week sees progress on both the third Model Railway Companion and Ribbons. The latter is probably just a month or so away from being ready to go to print! It has been exciting to see this come together, I’m still hoping to attract one or two more advertising supporters to help with the production costs, get in touch if you can help.
Last Sunday I took a trip up to Corwen behind D9525, this trip has become a favourite of mine since volunteering on the railway, the gentle scenery as we pace along the valley, following the river and fantastic views. Peaceful and beautiful. The Class 47 is out today, the Pannier and 108/109 on Saturday and the Pannier and 14 on Sunday if you’re thinking of visiting. Highly recommended! I’m hoping to take a run into Corwen again today, as short break from work… I’m so lucky to have all this on my doorstep.
I’ve found the summer holidays incredibly tiring and occasionally quite stressful. As it comes to an end a sense of achievement (!) and relief are little comfort to my tired and worn out body! I am looking forward to catching up with an old customer this weekend, and otherwise, taking things easy. I hope that you’ve enjoyed another week of content here, I’d ask, rather humbly that if you could consider supporting me with a donation or ‘coffee’ (below) I would be very grateful. Writing and producing content here is always rewarding, but doesn’t pay the bills, but I’ll never put adverts or a pay wall in the way of my material - I’m thankful for the kindness and generosity of my supporters, thank you all. Until next time, more soon…

I love writing and creating material for the blog. If you enjoy what you read and engage with I would be appreciative of any donation, large or small, to help me keep it advert and restriction free. Alternatively, feel free to buy me a coffee.

Morning James. I'm looking forward to seeing the result of the Lametton photo shoot, it's a great little layout. Have you seen the photos posted up today on the Cornwall Railway Society's website (in the news section) of Coombe Junction? The photos were taken by Roger Winnen in the 80's when the signal box was closed. I'm looking forward to ribbons and companion 3! Apologies for my introspection yesterday, I've just fought off a dose of COVID/man flu. Have a good weekend. Take care.
ReplyDeleteJust taken a look - very evocative, and making me wish I had a OO 37 for the photo shoot!
DeleteI pretty much got this view in reverse on Sunday, with D9525 heading for Llangollen, Pannier to Corwen and me standing at the crossing gates, great stuff! I really like the combination of 9525 and the Mk.1 suburbans, it has the right "could have happened" feel to it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to have missed you Simon, I hope you enjoyed it!
